welcome to the 5th grade
well its been a couple weeks since ive been back in good old america... and i cant say i havent wished to be back in australia for most of that time... buuuut i have had a really good couple of weeks. if im stuck in this country, at least im enjoying myself. first of all ive started student teaching. im student teaching in a fifth grade which is a grade that i really really like, suprisingly. i like that the kids are actually old enough to talk to and joke around with. they have a bit of an attitude that i could do without, but it gives them a little kick. the teacher that im working with is really nice, and she is very straight forward. she doesnt take shit from anyone, including her students. we spent the first week setting up the classroom and getting ready for the kids. this district is a bit ghetto, so we never knew how many students we were going to have, or who they were going to be. eventually we found out, but we still have a new student coming next week. the kids are awesome and i already love them to pieces. one has terrible b.o. though. i cant go near his desk without gagging. so i try to answer his questions from across the room. yesterday they were watching a video and he was sitting right next to my desk. i thought i was going to puke. the teacher had a talk with the entire class about deoderant and getting older, blah, blah blah. apparently this kid needs something a bit stronger. also, he is a very large kid. probably 300 pounds or more. sooo he does not fit so well in a desk made for the average size 5th grader. i feel so bad for him, because lets face it, i was no skinny mini either. oh well, i better go, im going up north for the weekend. more scatter brained thoughts to come
